Denise Nguyen is a passionate illustrator and studio artist who creates visual pieces in various mediums and forms, whether that be digital or traditional. She received her BA in Studio Art from the University of South Florida in 2024. Her main motivation as an artist is her intense interest in optical illusion and its ability to reveal profound principles about perspective and the elements of design. She works towards pushing the boundaries of visual art, enhancing storytelling and viewer experience.
Denise specializes in a wide variety of mediums such as clay, graphite, colored pencil, scratchboard, and oil paint. She is also experienced in photography, Harmony 24, and Adobe software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro. Although she focuses primarily on drawing and sculpture, she continues to experiment with unconventional ideas to elevate her art and mind.
Denise has been placed in first and second rankings in art shows as well as had her piece, Pencil (2013), displayed in the office of former Florida senator Garrett Richter in 2014. A R T I S T S T A T E M E N T
I dissect the visual world into optical illusions that challenge perceptions of our mental and physical surroundings. Interpretations are woven into two main questions: why do we judge our environments as such and what can we learn about ourselves in the process? I work in multiple disciplines such as drawing, sculpture, photography, and ceramics. Using graphite, scratchboard, and other materials, I feed my innate desire to learn and understand everything visual and discerned. I manipulate light and meld representational or pure visual elements together to locate bridges, layers, and meaningful presence between the recognizable and unrecognizable. All outcomes are welcome since my work is spontaneous and derives from a sprouting of curiosity within me. I am motivated and fascinated by the personal satisfaction of realizing something new and profound when unexpected, an experience that can evoke discussions of human behavior and more.
